Our Process
When food waste arrives at site it is either delivered in to the reception hall and processed through our state of the art de packaging facility, or pumped directly in to a reception tank. The de packaging equipment will remove all types of packaging including
- Card
- Plastic
- Cans
- Glass
Once the packaging has been removed the food waste liquor goes through the following process.
- Pasteurised at 70 degrees centigrade for 1 hour to make it bio secure and comply with Animal by Products Regulation Category 3.
- Balanced in the buffer tanks to ensure the feed for the anaerobic digesters is consistent.
- It then is fed in to the anaerobic digesters where it is continuously stirred for around 45 days at 38 degrees centigrade. As the food waste breaks down it gives of biogas which is captured and taken in to the gas holder tank.
- The biogas is then scrubbed to remove hydrogen sulphate before being combusted in a gas engine and produces both heat and electricity.
- The digestate from the process is high in nutrients and which is stored in a holding tank prior to being taken off site and used as a fertiliser on local agricultural land.
